Suntime in Springtime

I am guessing as a reward for our extra cold, long winter this year we are getting this extra sunny, warm spring.  It is marvelous!  We are on week three or four of straight sun, which is completely unheard of in Alaska...and we are enjoying every minute of it!

The fantastic sunshine is melting the snow quickly, uncovering the playgrounds we have missed.

Our backyard still has a few feet of snow left, but it has at least melted enough that we can swing again.

The trails are still deep under snowpack, but with the days getting noticeably longer and the extra sunshine we hope to be snow free in a few weeks.

And of course we have been getting as much skiing in as we can before it melts too much.  We did our last big cross country ski up Spencers Loop on a perfectly clear day.  Aaron pulled both kids in the chariot (60+ lbs!!) up and down the steep hills like a champ!

As much as we try and be active out in the spring sun, it's nice to sneak in an afternoon nap in the sun... although I'm pretty sure Daddy didn't get the nap he was hoping for this day.

A few weeks ago we took a hike across Portage Lake to see Portage Glacier.

This is one of my favorite wintertime walks and we were happy to sneak it in again this year.

Ethan is getting old enough to really get into our adventures.  He thought the huge glacier was neat and enjoyed watching the little pools of crystal blue water.

The funniest part  of the trip was that we picked the one cloudy day in weeks to do it!
