The New Siblings

Ethan and Kelsey, our two babies.  This first week of having Kelsey with us has been so much fun for all of us.  Aaron and I are of course so in love with our new little girl and Ethan can't seem to get enough of her either.  He spends a lot of time giggling at her and checking in on her through the day.

She is such a mellow, laid back baby.  We are six days in and she has only cried a few times, and then it's only when I don't feed her fast enough.  She sleeps so well, and luckily so deep, that she wakes up rested and content.  She has spoiled us so much this first week, I'm not sure I'm going to know what to do when she finally does cry.

She is spending more and more time each day awake in between naps and meals.  We spend a lot of time staring at each other, or really she stares at the light and I talk to her.

I am so impressed with how Ethan is handling this transition into being a big brother.  He giggles and plays peek a boo with her (as she stares into space...) and gets so excited to show his little sister off to our friends that come to visit.  If we go in the next room to play while she is sleeping, he runs over to her to make sure I bring her with us.  Best of all, he loves to help me take care of her.

Every morning when he wakes up, he runs over to her crib downstairs to check in on her.

He likes to watch me change her and help dress her.   He helps me sing to her when she's awake and was nice enough to try to share his food with her.

He even helped me give Kelsey her first bath.

We laugh because when Ethan was an infant, we had a quiet home and it was peaceful while he ate and slept.  Poor Kelsey gets to eat and sleep through the crazy noises of a one and a half year old.  At one point E was yelling at the top of his lungs while ramming his noisy popper into the wall.  And Kelsey just slept through it.  We realize now that infants sleep so deep so they can survive having a sibling.

It helps a lot that Kelsey still sleeps so much, so E gets lots of mommy and daddy time to himself still.  When she's awake, we sit and play with her.

And when she sleeps we're back to laughing and playing with our little man...like dancing and running in circles around the room in this fun little outfit.

Aaron and I are realizing that we might just survive having two kids, and we are having a great time doing it so far.  Having Kelsey with us now makes the family feel complete.

Ethan is sharing his food? He must be in love. And how could he not!

So fun!! I remember so well the simplicity of a toddler and a newborn :) I love the picture of Ethan helping with her bath with a dinosaur hanging out of his mouth!
