Kelsey Bailey Fuhr
Born December 12, 11:45a.m.
9lb 6oz, 22.5 inches
We went from this, 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant...
...to this beautiful little girl.
Her middle name of Bailey is a family name from my dad's side, his name being James Bailey Kimble III. We were pretty sure that this would be some part of her name early in the brainstorming process. We had a hard time deciding on what the rest of her name would be, except for some reason Aaron and I were both stuck on naming her something that began with a 'K'. After lots and lots of ideas, we both came to agree that Kelsey was a favorite of ours and it seemed to just feel right.
Kelsey decided to make her arrival on the morning of a huge snow storm here in Anchorage. I had woken up early and sat watching the snow come down and writing a blog post about her not coming. A little after 6:30, a constant pain started in my back. Since you get lots of pains here and there in pregnancy, I didn't think much about it. Then just before 7:00 the pain started to come and go.
Aaron was about to leave for work around 7:15 and I asked him to wait a few minutes until I figured out if my back just hurt or if I was having contractions. I went and showered to get ready for my day just in case this wasn't the real thing. By 7:45 the contractions were coming consistently and strong and there was no doubt I was in labor. So of course I wanted to wait another half hour before we left for the hospital, even though we knew it would progress quickly like with Ethan.
We got to the hospital at 8:45 and Kelsey was born at 11:45. Even before she was weighed, everyone in the room commented on how big and long she was. All Aaron and I could tell was that she was perfectly beautiful and really purple. It was such a wonderful moment holding her for the first time and looking at her cute little body and sweet face.
The three of us spent some time enjoying our first moments together and getting Kelsey all cleaned up. Then we called home so her brother could come meet her.
Ethan was immediately pretty curious about this little baby hanging out with mom and dad. Once he figured out that he got a lot of attention when he kissed and snuggled with her, he gave her lots of love. It got even better for him when he made a game out of matching their eyes, ears, nose and got even more attention for that.
We are pretty happy that so far he is adjusting well to his sister. I'm sure we'll have a few bumps in the road, but so far his curiosity and affection are pretty sweet.
It was so nice of Kelsey to make her debut while my parents were still in town. She left just enough time for us to get home from the hospital and spend a nice evening at the house together before they flew out.
We are enjoying having another newborn in the house. I love listening to all her little noises and watching her arms fly around as she makes funny squishy faces. Kelsey is a great eater and sleeper so far, which gives us peace of mind so we can just enjoy her.
