Our little Kelsey Q is a healthy, strong two week old. She has been such a mellow, sweet baby in her first two weeks. My favorite thing about her so far is how she makes these soft little sing song noises as she sleeps. It makes it sound like she's having happy dreams.
When people meet her, they first comment on how beautiful she is (and she really is!) and then they comment on how much she looks like her brother and Dad. She has already changed so much in the first two weeks, but still resembles Ethan at this age. It is so neat to me to have two babies resemble each other so much at this early age. It will be fun to see if they continue to look so much a like as they grow.
She takes after her brother in more than just looks - she is a fantastic eater and is on the upper end of the growth charts for her age. At her two week appointment we discovered she had gained 15 oz in 12 days, which is above the 0.5 - 1.0 oz per day average of most babies. She is a healthy baby in every other area as well.
Ethan loves to have Kelsey sit on his lap, especially as he sits in her little chair. Aaron and I are pretty proud of how our little guy is adjusting to sharing our attention. We have had little bursts of toddler tantrums since she has been home, but for the most part he is all smiles and excitement when he sees her.
We had a sweet moment at the Dr's appointment today - Kelsey gave out a big, loud cry as the nurse pricked Kelsey's heal for the PKU metabolic test. Ethan hasn't heard Kelsey cry like this much (except for when he threw a truck and it hit her head...) and his first response was to run over to her, grab her hand and kiss her cheek. It was heartwarming to see him so protective of her already!
A few firsts documented this last week:
All bundled up for her first outing into Alaska's arctic winter. She stayed warm and toasty, all snuggled up next to me as we took her brother sledding.
Her first bath in the tub - it's hard to tell in the picture, but she really did seem to enjoy the warm water. She relaxed and coo'd as we bathed her.
Meeting her Gigi for the first time. She was lucky enough to get a full week of Gigi kisses.
And meeting her Grandpa as well on their Christmas visit.
