Cabbage Patch Boy

Before we completely decided that we wanted to name our last baby Cole, we did what most parents do and looked up the meaning behind it.  We found: a short name that embodies a lot of richness and depth.  Cool.  We like that.

We also saw sites describing the name as swarthy, dark, charcoal, of Old English origins.  That worked fine for us too.

Then, after he was born and named, someone told us that the word cole means cabbage.  As in coleslaw or cabbage slaw.  Uhm, what?

So I went and looked it up and turns out, they were right.  If you google the definition of cole you get: a brassica, especially cabbage, kale or rape.  Some sites even have the name Cole meaning cabbage farmer.  Apparently at one point in England a colehead is slang for calling someone a cabbage head.

Doh, looks like we named our kiddo after a cabbage!  A swarthy, rich, deep cabbage.

No matter, we love our little cabbage baby!
