Little Buddies

The first few days of a newborns life are pretty amazing to be a part of.

It's amazing to watch how much newborns change each day and to watch them absorb the world they've joined.

It is amazing to watch big brothers and big sisters change into their new role in life and to watch these beginning days of their lifelong relationship.

And it is amazing to watch Ethan and Kelsey take on these new roles together.  They are having a great time laughing and giggling as he wiggles on their laps and they crack each other up as they tell jokes to him.

Both Ethan and Kelsey are enamored with their little brother and in the first week there have been some really sweet moments between them all.

As soon as they wake up in the morning, E&K come down to our bed to see Cole.  While we all snuggle in bed, they sing to him, tell him jokes, ask him what he dreamed about (and Ethan provides the answers).  And my favorite, they tell him how much we all love him.

All this love for the little guy sometimes can be a little over whelming.  In his first hours of life, he had 'loving' hands all over his face, his head, grabbing his arm.  He is going to be a tough little guy with all this 'love'!

At first, Ethan has called him Hunter Cole.  And after a few days he started calling him Little Buddy, which seems to be sticking for E.

When E went to school the first time he had to go hug on Cole before we left and said 'Bye bye little buddy.  I'll be back, don't worry little buddy, I'll come back.'  E said to me later, Cole shouldn't worry because I will always come back to him.

Kels calls him Baby Cole or her Little Baby.  She says, good little baby, don't cry little baby, eat little baby.  And she likes to make sure he has a toy to play with as he sleeps.

When Kels holds Cole, she puts her hands up to hide their faces and laughs or whispers to him.  At least I think she whipsers to him.  I'm not sure what she is saying, but I'm sure it is very important stuff.

The first time she left the house without Cole she cried, worried he wouldn't be there when she got back.  I guess she felt like since he just showed up one day, he might just turn around and leave one day.  I love seeing how fast they gotten attached to him.

E & Kels are big helpers in taking care of Cole.  It takes three of us to change diapers - Ethan getting the clean diaper and 'distracting him so he doesn't cry' and Kels hands out the wipes and holds his foot.

While he eats, Kels rubs his head so he doesn't fall asleep.  Ethan likes to adjust his blankets and hats while he sleeps to make sure he is warm (or completely take his blankets off so he can see him...).

They both ask twenty times a day to hold him and it cracks them up when he wiggles on their lap.

Ethan was a little disappointed that Cole isn't going to walk, talk, crawl or really play for a while, but he says his Little Buddy is still fun anyways.

It is good to see that E&K think all the waiting and anticipation of Baby Cole's arrival was totally worth it!
