Blueberries!

After our last blueberry outing ended up fruitless, I became determined to find some blueberries.  So a friend and I packed the kiddos up and headed farther away from Anchorage to Hatchers Pass in hopes the caterpillars had left us some berries.

And we found berries!  At first E was just eating them from the container or my hand....

And then he surprised me by completely getting into the berry picking fun.  He loved finding the berries on the bush and eating them.  Berry picking kept his attention longer than anything else we have done with him.  I think it helped that it involved sweet fruit, but still impressive how long he did it!

When we had picked over one area he was off to find the next good patch.

No sure he understood that we wanted to actually take some berries home.  All the berries he picked went straight to his mouth, like a little bear getting ready for winter.  He was a purple, happy man.

Ethan surprised me again by how long and how much fun he had hiking - it made me so proud.  :)  He was determined to walk the trail by himself and seemed to have a lot of fun climbing the rocks in the way.

The best part of berry picking is enjoying blueberry pancakes with Dad in the morning!

Ethan had a day full of funny outfits.  He started off in a pair of jeans but those quickly became wet so I stripped him down to a diaper and hiking shoes for a while.  Fancy.

Then we put the long johns back on once they dried, which I thought was a nice look.

Back in the parking lot he went pantless again for a little puddle playtime. (I love those baby legs!!!)

And my favorite look for the day - green rain boots and no pants - for a walk to the neighbors when we got home.  He picked the rain boots out himself.  The kid's got style.
