Fall Festivals

Fall is the time of year that Houston starts waking up.  The temps drop down into the 80's, the city crawls out of the air conditioned homes and the season of festivals begin.

One bonus of Houston being such a diverse city is that if you can think of a reason to celebrate, there are people that will join you.  Ethnic festivals, lifestyle festivals, seasonal festivals, art festivals, kid festivals...you name it, Houston has celebrated it in the last few weeks.

We have joined in as much of the good times as we can over the last several weekends.  On one of Aaron's long weekends, we snuck in three different festivals in three days.  It was a random weekend of Italians, art and Renaissance folks.

My favorites are the fall festivals with pumpkin picking and face painting, so we have hit up more then one of them.  Fall isn't complete until you have pictures of your kiddos picking out pumpkins and riding on bales of hay around a farm.

We even snuck in a neighborhood bicycle festival which took us all over the inner loop on a biking scavenger hunt and ended with beer and bounces in a park.  You know its a good day when you end it with beer and bounce houses...

We're already looking forward to next year when we can do it all again...and maybe even sneak in some Oktoberfest celebrations...  :)

Reasons we love the festivals:
Lots of kid activities

Get to eat diffent foods (some for you...)

(and some for me...)

Get to do things you never would do on your own, like throw an axe...

...or feed a goat...

...or ride a horse!

We get to learn about other cultures

and different animals

We paint our faces

and enjoy being outside

Even tigers love popcicles

Saying hello to the ponies

Checking to be sure to pick the best one

Got it!

Big girl on the train

And on the farm

Respecting nature

The tiger, riding home

I took my camera on our day at Old McDonalds Farm and got a lot of good ones, at least in my biased opinion:
