Summer has fully hit here in Alaska - whoohoo. It's gotten so warm at points, Malley started to shed her winter coat last week...in mid July. About time! We've had a good mix of sun and rain lately, a typical Alaskan summer. Since we've been back from our vacations, we've been out enjoying the outdoors in both:
Hiking in the rain,
hiking in the sun.
Playing in the yard in the rain,
playing in the yard in the sun.
Fishing in the rain,
fishing in the sun.
Luckily, there's been more playing outside in the sun lately than there has been rain...love the Alaskan summer!
One of the great things of the Alaskan summer is fishing for salmon. This year's run has been FANTSTIC!
And when the salmon runs are good, it's amazing to look up and down the river and see a fish on at all times.
Catching the fish is fun, but fishing for salmon is most satisifying when you sit down for dinner that night with fresh fish that you caught that day, cooked with herbs and greens grown in your garden. Alaskan living feels good.
On weekends we're not fishing, we try and get out to do some hiking.
Aaron wanted to relive his days growing up, hiking Flattop - one of the mountains behind Anchorage. This is one of the most popular hikes in the area and a must do for anyone living here.
Ethan got to throw rocks from the top of a mountain over looking his city.
This summer E has become a boy of all trades. One minute he's in the kitchen helping Mom cook.
The next, he's out in the yard helping Dad build a deck.
Then it's off to the back yard to be Dad's trainer - mush, Dad, mush.
Nothing like a little one year old supervision to help speed up a home improvement project. :)
