We just returned from spending Christmas in Hawaii with Aaron's parents and brother Curtis. It was a wonderful two weeks of sun, beaches and family. Ethan loved the ocean and getting to be outside without 5 layers on!
E was sick the first 5 days, so the trip started pretty slow for us. Poor little man had a stomach bug while traveling and exploring the beach and ocean for the first time. He was a champ and powered through it though. Luckily, day six he woke up as our happy little man again and the trip got much easier.
It was so fun to watch Ethan explore the new world, 80 degrees warmer than he is used to and no snow! Crawling on grass for the first time was pretty confusing but once he got used to the sponginess he seemed to really like it.
Ethan's first Christmas was fun. Even though he didn't know what was going on, we had a good time talking about Santa and getting in the Christmas spirit with him. He was a happy little Christmas elf.
Luckily, Santa found him in Hawaii. (Like how we wrapped his presents in newspaper? Classy.)
E's favorite toy these days is still his toothbrush so Santa brought him a jumbo pack of brand new ones. He also brought a book, noisy toys, bath toys and pool toys.
After presents we headed to the beach and played in the ocean.
Then off to a great Christmas dinner and some pictures. It was a very Merry Christmas.
Aaron's and my favorite part of the trip was watching Ethan play in the ocean. He loved the water. GG bought his this little floatie for Christmas and he would kick his legs like crazy as soon as he was in it. As he floated in the ocean he would just giggle and splash. The best part was that the Hawaiin Pacific is so warm he could stay out there for a decent amount of time and not get cold.
Ethan's favorite game on vacation was taking off hats, glasses and sunglasses on everyone. He loved that we all were wearing sunglasses so much and really liked taking off GG's hats.
...and Grandpa's glasses.
Taking an active 7 month old to the beach turned out to be a lot of work at times. Keeping his skin the pasty white he started the vacation with in the hot sun for two weeks took a lot of sunscreen and battles of keeping a hat on. Keeping his hands out of his mouth after he touched the sand was a whole other battle, which we did not always win...
A friend let us borrow a little kiddie tent to take to the beach with us and it was great to have. It gave us a place to put Ethan out of the sand for naps and a little play time so we were able to spend full days at the beach and still have a happy baby.
The constant movement of the water amazed Ethan. He would just stare at the water as it moved back and forth over his feet. Holding him and walking in the surf became the quickest way to put him to sleep for his naps.
Ethan loved the funny sounds and movements Uncle Curtis would make. He could sit for a long time and just laugh and laugh at Curtis making the same sounds over and over.
Watching the sun come up from our lenai.
Hanging with Dad at the southern most point in the US.
Playing with GG and Grandpa (notice Grandpa doesn't keep his glasses on when E is around...).
Playing in the pool in his floatie.
Sight seeing around the island.
Playing at the beach next to the sea turtles.
People watching at the beach.
Being silly with Dad.
Sitting with Grandpa.
